This was the last week of camp. It has been such a joy working with the girls I’m going to miss them so much. I feel like I have learned so much from them. They are some of the smartest, brightest girls and I feel like they will do some great things in the future.
The STEM classes this week were all based on CSI. In my class we looked at finger printing, tire marks, bite marks, and lifting finger prints off of things. They seemed to really like it. We also told the girls that a crime was committed and all of the duke staff were suspects. They had such a fun time trying to figure out who did the crime.
This week I helped with the yoga electives and the cooking ones too. They cooked bread and the yoga class was really fun and relaxing. One day the FBI came for the workshop and told them about what it was like. Another day forensic scientists came to teach the girls about their job. In Girls Inc. class I helped with the college bound class with 8th graders. They learned so much I think it is s vital for them to know about college now and see all that college has to offer.
Eurekaton was such a fun yet sad day. We started it off by playing games then we danced and took pictures. We also got to sign things for the girls and say a few words to them. They did a talent show and then we had to say good-bye. It was truly heartbreaking but I am so grateful I got to know the girls and be a part of their lives for this short time. I am so thankful for this Duke Engage experience, it opened my eyes to so many things and I have been able to meet so many wonderful people I will never forget.
