Hi everyone! I’m Jennie and I’m a rising junior from Portland, Oregon studying economics and psychology. This summer I was placed at Root Cause, a social-impact driven consulting firm that works with a variety of organizations such as foundations and nonprofits to improve their services and strengthen their social impact. Root Cause works on projects both in Boston and across the nation, with the focus of reducing disparities and promoting lifelong success by partnering with organizations that promote education, youth development, health, and economic security. In fact, during my first week I sat in on a meeting about a child school readiness initiative in Guilford County, North Carolina, which is only two counties away from Duke!
This summer, I will be working on a research project about improvement coaching for nonprofits and how Root Cause can expand their services in this method. I will also be consolidating Root Cause’s improvement coaching model so that it can be easily accessed and used for future projects.
Everyone at Root Cause has been so welcoming and I am grateful to be in a collaborative environment with the opportunity to gain exposure to projects in different areas. I am excited to learn more about the challenges that nonprofits face in reaching their goals and how these can be addressed. I hope my time in Boston will help shine more light on how nonprofits can expand their impact and more effectively work to address social inequality and achieve their mission.
