This week was primarily dedicated to online training for working with Girls Inc, as well as an introduction to our work with the Eureka! camp. It was nerve wracking to meet their staff for the first time, as well as have some of my first one on one conversations with other DukeEngage students in the program, but from the moment we started icebreaker activities, I knew this Summer was going to be a lot of fun. All of the Girls Inc staffers seem very excited to be working with us, and many of them previously participated in Girls Inc programming, so they were able to give us a lot of insight into how things will work, even though the online format is new to everyone.

We were given our assignments for curriculum to work on over the next week and I’m looking forward to putting my own creative spin on the lesson plan outlines that we were given. I’m also excited to help with the elective ideas that were thought of by other DukeEngagers and get to know some of them better! Things are definitely picking up speed, and the fact that camp starts in just two weeks is a little overwhelming, but I’m really excited to get to work and meet all of the participants very soon.
