1. Cook for myself!! Maia and I made some Thai green curry with tofu, veggies and white rice. It was the first real meal I’ve prepared in Portland.
2. Go to Hoyt Arboretum! My placement (Friends of Trees) took me and a few other interns to the arboretum to see some trees. My favorite was Oregon’s state fossil, the dawn redwood. Here is a picture of some other redwoods I saw at the arboretum (these were the tallest trees I have ever seen!)
3. Running along Tellwinger Ave! This is an awesome 4 mile run right next to the PSU dorms that I like to go on the weekends when I have time in the morning. It has beautiful views of Portland and the river.
4. Watching fireworks at Mt. Tabor! Our group made the journey (1.5 hours) to Mt. Tabor on the 4th of July to see the fireworks. It turns out that just some kids set off these huge fireworks but it was really cool, fun, and beautiful experience to be surrounded by other Portlanders for the holiday.
5. Gardening! Our group went to the Oregon Food Bank learning garden where we were able to plant some beans as well as harvest our own produce. Pictured here is some kale, beets, and cabbage that I picked.
6. Lavender Farm! Our group went to Sauvie Island Lavender Farm and we were able to pick our own lavender. It was a beautiful site and it smelled amazing.
