Hi everyone! My name is Josh Engel and I am a rising senior studying Biomedical Engineering. This summer I will be working as a counselor leading cooking demonstrations at the Kid’s Culinary Camp at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. The goal of my work at the camp is to introduce kids to new types of foods and to help them become more comfortable in the kitchen. My goal is to make them more confident and knowledgeable about what they are eating. Last weekend, we were able to take a tour of the city and learn more about the enduring impact of Hurricane Katrina on the city. In addition to learning about the history of New Orleans, we also have had the chance to experience some of its culture. I enjoyed going to the Oyster and Creole tomato festivals, as well as a cooking class on classic New Orleans foods like gumbo. I have had a wonderful time in New Orleans so far and I am looking forward to what the rest of the summer brings!
