I am working with DurhamCares, a non-profit based in Durham whose mission is to foster collaboration, develop leaders, and educate people. When thinking about who I wanted to work with this summer, I sought out DurhamCares because I wanted to engage more in the city that I live in. Many of my courses and experiences of engaging with Durham have cultivated an interest in community engagement and becoming involved with the place I live. Working with this organization has already taught me a lot about Durham and its other community organizations. I am looking forward to meeting more community leaders and learning more about Durham and its political and social landscape. So far, I’ve hosted Zoom webinars for panelists and viewers, sat in on local food security community partners, and drafted a social media plan. Partially, my work has been to learn about DurhamCares and its operations and to assist with technology.
