The mission statement of DukeEngage, “Challenge Yourself. Change Your World” is not only a mantra of the program itself, but a resounding standard that our alumni embody day after day. Recent participant of the program, Alison Frank, serves as an excellent example. During the summer of 2017, through DukeEngage, she interned at ProsperUS Detroit, a micro-lending firm that offers entrepreneurial training to aspiring minority, refugee and underprivileged entrepreneurs. Through her work, she assisted a Burundi Immigrant, Mamba, to put together an application for the 2017 Hatch Detroit Competition, which he eventually took all the way to the finals, winning the grand prize of $50,000 as well as up to $200,000 in legal, marketing, business organization, and other professional aid. Now, his restaurant is in it’s early days, with an exciting future ahead.
