Four DukeEngage alumni received the 2021 William J. Griffith University Service Award. The award is presented annually to a select number of graduating students whose service and contributions to the Duke and larger communities have significantly impacted University life. Recipients demonstrate effective University, communal and global citizenship.

Ale Gomez and Clarice Hu were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Durham and local community. Gomez participated in DukeEngage-Ahmedabad in 2018 and Hu participated in DukeEngage-Peru in 2019. Both served as preceptors for the Fortin Foundation DukeEngage Academy and Hu was also a Brodhead Fellow in 2020.

Esperanza Hernandez and Elizabeth Lee were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Duke community. Hernandez participated in DukeEngage-Tucson and Lee in DukeEngage-Boston, both in 2018.
