Timeline for 2016-2017 (summer of 2017)

Please note: Round 1 includes international group programs. Round 2 includes U.S.-based group programs and independent projects.

AUGUST

  • 27 – Orientation Sessions for First-Year Students

SEPTEMBER

  • 1 – Back at Duke Breakfast!
  • 30 – New and continuing group programs announced, application goes live

OCTOBER

  • 3 – General Information Sessions, 6:00PM – GA Down Under, East Campus
  • 4 – General Information Sessions, 11:30AM – Soc Psych 130, West Campus
  • 5 – General Information Sessions, 6:00PM – LSRC (Love Auditorium), West Campus
  • 13 – General Information Sessions, 4:00PM – GA Down Under, East Campus
  • 14 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 17-21 – DukeEngage Week I – International / Independent (learn more about international programs, independent project design and the application process)
  • 27 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 28 – DukeEngage advising sessions

NOVEMBER

  • 1 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 3 – Round 1 application deadline (international group programs) at 12 noon EST
  • 4 – Round 1 application reading and interview period begins
  • 11 – NEW!! Information session for U.S.-based programs and independent projects, 4:00PM – Soc Psych 130, West Campus
  • 29 – Round 1 application reading and interview ends

DECEMBER

  • 2 – Round 1 student acceptance notification
  • 6 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 8 – Statement of Intent due from Round 1 students (by 12 noon EST)
  • 8 – DukeEngage advising sessions

JANUARY

  • 11 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 13 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 13 – Deadline for all independent project candidates to meet with a DukeEngage advisor
  • 17-19 – DukeEngage Week II – U.S.-based Programs (learn more about programs and the application process)
  • 17-19 REGISTRATION for accepted 1st-deadline students – Mandatory attendance during one of three days to turn in required paperwork, sign up for Student Health appointment, apply for visa and communicate flight information.
  • 17 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 19 – DukeEngage advising sessions
  • 24 – Round 2 application deadline (U.S.-based group programs, independent projects) at 12 noon EST
  • 24 – Round 2 application reading and interview period

FEBRUARY

  • 16 – Round 2 application reading and interview period ends
  • 17 – Round 2 student acceptance notification
  • 23 – Statement of Intent due from Round 2 students (by 12 noon EST)

MARCH

  • Throughout – Pre-service workshops led by program directors
  • 21-23 REGISTRATION for accepted 2nd-deadline students- Mandatory attendance during one of three days to turn in required paperwork, sign up for Student Health appointment, apply for visa and communicate flight information.

APRIL

  • Throughout – Pre-service workshops led by program directors
  • 23 – Online pre-departure training must be completed

MAY

  • 8-10 – DukeEngage Academy: Because this training is critical to both student and program success, all DukeEngage participants must attend. If you know you cannot attend the Academy prior to your desired summer of service, please speak with an adviser before you apply because you will not be able to participate.

MAY-AUG

  • DukeEngage summer programs and projects take place (eight-week minimum; travel and program dates vary)
