Vale Saavedra is a DukeEngage South Korea 2018 Alumni double-majoring in Linguistics and International Comparative Studies, with a minor in Korean. After her time in DukeEngage, Vale has gone on to speak about her experience in an Immigration and Refugee Panel, Korean Program Presentation, and as a DEAL in the Fortin Foundation Academy in front of an audience of 500.
Following her summer working in South Korea, Vale developed the following list of resources for students who are interested in that program — or similar programs.
I believe that taking any Korean language course before going on DukeEngage South Korea would be extremely beneficial. If you do not speak any Korean, learning even the basics will help you communicate with students. As for other courses that would be beneficial, they are no longer offered as the Professor has since left Duke University.
