Clarice is a junior at Duke studying biology and computer science. She applied to DukeEngage Peru 2019 with GVI because she loved the variety of topics the project covered. While in Peru, she worked with a local community to restore an ancient wetland by building a fence and ameliorating the impacts of eutrophication. In addition, her cohort planned and built a greenhouse and warmhouse in a school to promote environmental education. She also took Spanish lessons and completed a leadership course while in Peru. At Duke, she is part of Devils En Pointe, DUSDAC, and volunteers at the Duke Hospital, and she loves to run as well. In the future, she hopes to work with GVI again and eventually become a physician.
Following her summer working in Peru, Clarice developed the following list of resources for students who are interested in that program — or similar programs.
