SPAC (Student Programming & Advisory Committee) 2008-2009 initiatives:

DukeEngage Now: Service Opportunities at Duke, Durham, and Beyond

This SPAC facilitated House Course delves into the concept of Civic Engagement and the ways in which it has been used to impact society. This course will cover a broad range of special themes from global issues to youth work. The class is designed using DukeEngage program presentations, guest speakers, weekly readings, and experiential activities.

Service-Link

With the support of DukeEngage staff and the University, SPAC is working on identifying and developing additional resources for DukeEngage participants. The Service-Link hopes to include detailed program information and contact lists for past and present projects (both individual and group); an online forum for discussion of current issues in civic engagement; resources to help returning DukeEngage students find service placements in the Durham community,  professional development opportunities; and other miscellaneous services as identified by SPAC.

Peer Mentoring Program

SPAC is working to connect prospective DukeEngage participants with DukeEngage alumni to share suggestions and knowledge from the field. To learn more about this initiative or to get involved, please click on the Peer Mentoring tab.

DukeEngage Academy Working Group

The DukeEngage Academy is the pre-service training programming that all DukeEngage participants must attend. SPAC members are working to design and help implement this pilot program. Members are working on the development of training modules, panel discussions and student handbook.
