Duke University sophomore David Liu, an electrical and computer engineering and math major from China who participated in the DukeEngage in Charlotte, NC program during summer 2012, was recently profiled in a video feature produced by The Duke Endowment.
The DukeEngage in Charlotte program partners with local schools to provide summer support for a variety of enrichment programs. Liu's placement was with the Freedom Schools program, which dates back to 1964 but was reborn in 1992 under the leadership of Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund. The Freedom Schools program aims to help children fall in love with reading, increase their self-esteem and generate more positive attitudes toward learning.
The DukeEngage in Charlotte program is supported by Duke alumni living in Charlotte.
