PASSPORTS & VISAS:  Getting to your service destination

Passports—the requirements

You must possess a passport no later than January 15, 2013 in order to apply for a DukeEngage 2013 program or project abroad.

Additionally, some countries require a minimum of one unstamped passport spread (facing pages) upon entry to the country. Please check your passport to make sure you meet this requirement. If you do not, you may want to apply to for additional pages.

You must have a passport valid for 6 months past the end date of your program to be eligible to apply. DukeEngage will not pay for your passport. Please begin the process of obtaining a passport immediately by going here.

Visas—the requirements

If your are travelling to a country to which a travel visa is required, you must have that country’s visa in hand by April 18, 2013 While DukeEngage provides the services of a visa expediting service, we cannot guarantee that you will be granted a visa, as the decision to allow a foreign visitor entry is at the sole discretion of each country. Should you not have your visa in hand by the April 18 deadline, you regrettably will be disenrolled from your program or individual project, you will not receive your DukeEngage stipend, and you will not be able to join another project in 2013. Unless a rising senior, you will be eligible to reapply in future years.

Additional travel documentation may be required for participants attending Duke on a student visa.  As documentation requirements may be extensive and vary by country of origin, DukeEngage staff will schedule individual appointments with international students to review their travel needs shortly after acceptance.
